但若是金鶯勝洋基，藍鳥輸給紅襪，老虎勝勇士，那麼金鶯晉級，而4日老虎補賽再勝印地安人，那麼老虎與藍鳥需加賽一場，決定哪一隊與金鶯打驟死賽。相同道理，若藍鳥勝紅襪，金鶯輸洋基，老虎勝勇士，而4日老虎補賽再勝印地安人，那麼就是老虎與金鶯加賽一場。
另外，就是金鶯、藍鳥都輸，老虎連勝勇士及印地安人，那麼金鶯、藍鳥與老虎都是88勝74敗，就需再加賽決定哪兩隊奪得外卡資格。所以說，老虎隊未來兩戰都必須要贏，否則就會遭淘汰。
至於國家聯盟，大都會隊已確定取得第一張外卡的資格，另外一張外卡，由巨人與紅雀爭奪，巨人3日只要再勝道奇，那麼巨人晉級，如果巨人輸道奇，紅雀勝海盜，兩隊戰績都是86勝76敗，則加賽一場決定最後的晉級名額。

金鶯隊Chris Tillman自傷兵名單歸隊之後，今天對老虎隊之戰投出一場精采好球，先發6局失1分，終場金鶯3比1勝老虎，Tillman拿到第16勝（5敗），美國聯盟外卡爭奪戰愈來愈激烈。
Tillman因右肩不適，8月底進入了傷兵名單，今天他復出對決老虎隊王牌投手Justin Verlander，表現相當精采，先發6局僅在5局下被Ian Kinsler適時敲出失掉1分，Brad Brach投第7局，Mychal Givens投第8局，Zach Britton投第9局都沒失分，Britton本季第41次救援成功。
